The British company, Red Funnel, which runs services between Southampton and the Isle of Wight, has teamed up with IBM to provide minute-by-minute updates on the location of its boats. Using on-board sensors, the ferries will send messages via Twitter to keep passengers informed of unforeseen delays caused by weather, technical problems or medical emergencies. This will help passengers to better plan their journeys and avoid unnecessary delays. The system has been set up by Dr Andy Stanford-Clark, IBM master inventor and distinguished engineer. Read more…
